FAQs

What is Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy?

Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) is a way of restoring the balance of your hormones while aiming to relieve the symptoms that often come with imbalances such as fatigue, weight gain, brain fog, sleep issues, and more; using hormones that are identical in structure to those naturally produced by the body. Both women and men experience a decrease in hormone levels naturally with age, BHRT is an effective solution that can help.

Is BHRT just for women going through menopause?

While Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) can be a great option for women experiencing menopause or perimenopause symptoms, it can also benefit people of all genders at various stages of life. For example, we often see women starting in the mid-late 30s benefitting from BHRT to address hormonal imbalances that help improve energy, mood, sleep, and more. For men, it can help combat the natural decline in testosterone levels that can start in their 30s and leads to fatigue, decreased libido, and muscle loss.

What types of treatment methods are prescribed?

Depending on your specific need and preference, we can find BHRT options that work best for you and your lifestyle including pills, pellets, cream, and more.

What more should I know about BHRT Pellets?

What are pellets? A small, solid compressed cylinder - larger than a grain of rice and smaller than a "Tic-Tac" that delivers hormones in a consistent physiologic levels in both men and women. The pellet comes in a sterile glass container / packet.

Pellet myths to know:

  • They do not increase the risk of DVT, Strokes or Blood Clots.
  • They are not only for women.
  • Pellets do not deliver inconsistent hormone levels.
  • Pellets are not only for severe hormone imbalances.
  • Pellets do not increase the risk of Breast Cancer.

Pellet benefits to know:

  • Can be a treatment option for patients who have not had success for pills, patch or creams.
  • Can provide relief of migraines, menstrual headaches, depression and can help decrease anxiety.
  • Can increase muscle mass, bone density, coordination and physical performance.
  • May improve symptoms for patients of Parkinson's, Fibromyalgia, Alzheimer's, diabetes, osteoporosis and more.

What is the difference between synthetic and bio-identical hormones?

Bio-identical hormones, produced by natural plant substances, are structurally and chemically identical to the hormones produced by the body. Synthetic hormones are not structurally identical and typically use animals sources, such as horse urine, to mimic the hormones produced in the body, and can even increase the chance of negative side effects. At Rooted Health and Wellness, we only use bio-identical hormones not only for their effectiveness but also for their safety.

Can BHRT help treat anything else?

BHRT is most commonly used to treat symptoms of perimenopause and menopause, but it can also help with other conditions such as high cortisol, insulin resistance, adrenal and thyroid disorders, osteoporosis, and much more!

What do I get with my BHRT membership?

At Rooted Health and Wellness, we prioritize your time and your unique health needs. Unlike traditional clinics, we don't rush you through a 15-minute appointment. Instead, we dedicate ample time to understand your concerns and provide personalized care.

Here's what you can expect when you work with us:

  • Comprehensive lab work: Included for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Do only women benefit from BHRT?

While often associated with women's health, bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) can also address hormonal imbalances in men. As men age, testosterone levels naturally decline, leading to symptoms like fatigue, decreased libido, and mood changes. BHRT can help restore these levels, improving overall well-being.

Does BHRT increase the risk for cancer?

We get asked this a lot because there is a common misconception out there based on a 2002 study that came out on the use of hormones. The study itself was very flawed because they only used synthetic hormones (not bio-identical), but the misinformation spread quickly and has been difficult to right the wrong. Later, the study had to be amended to say that only synthetic hormones may increase the possibility of breast cancer. Since then, there have been many other studies, and many more to come, on the positive health benefits of bio-identical hormone replacement therapy.
At Rooted Health and Wellness, we only use bio-identical hormones which are chemically converted from plants to have the identical molecular structure as hormones products by the body. We always encourage patients to ask questions and work closely with their healthcare provider to understand what choice is best for you.
